Essay #3 Assignment

In order to write an effective essay you first need to figure out who your audience is. Your target audience determines your tone, your rhetoric and even the overall structure of your essay. In addition, this helps the writer to know what type of information is needed as well as detail. The targeted audience should automatically know and understand if they’re part of it.

In my previous essay I talked about immigration policies in both the United States and the European and its social consequences in the respective countries. My targeted audience was mostly students my age as well as anybody who wasn’t aware of the many policies and differences that the European Union has with the United States. My essay had a very general topic that everyone could have an understanding and opinion on.

In addition, I believe that the usage of interviews to people from all age groups  about legal immigration and illegal immigration will help to better understand the European and American perspective. This will also help to see the drastic differences in opinion across ages. Moreover, the rhetorical strategy that I would implement into my essay would be a mix of Pathos and Ethos. I want my audience to feel connected to my paper as well as make them think about their own opinion. However, I also want to show logic and reasoning behind the data that I use in my paper which will balance out the emotional connection. I want to really get into my audience’s head and basically show how other countries or systems organize themselves and put into place laws and policies.

The question that I chose for the essay #2 is “What social issues and differences do the European Union immigration policies cause compared to the ones in the United States?”

Immigration issues in the United States compared to the European Union is a major topic in today’s world. Both the United States and the European Union have been largely impacted by illegal as well legal immigration throughout history. Nonetheless, each of them have different systems and ways of controlling the people into their countries. I find this topic to be very interesting because it is something that I constantly see on television when I’m back in Europe and it’s also something that is constantly talked about in social media as well all platforms in the United States. I’m also very interested in the different approaches that both of them have on this matter and how the migration policies put in place by the European Union for all its members affects each country compared to the United States. In addition, there needs to be a different policy for each country which will be easier to coordinate and not cause geopolitical problems. The essay “Is there a Common Migratory Policy in the EU?.” ukessays.com. 11 2018. UKEssays. 10 2021 <https://www.ukessays.com/essays/politics/common-migratory-policy-eu-2133.php?vref=1>, gives thorough explanation on the immigration policies and fluxes surrounding Europe as well as the European Union whilst citing the multiple problems that the migration policies put in place provoke on the multiple European countries.  I believe that the audience for this topic can vary, but it is mostly targeted towards the people who are not well aware of this issue or the complete opposite: people who want to learn more of this topic.

Assignment n1:

In order to be a good writer one has to understand the reason why they’re writing and the purpose of it. One doesn’t just write whatever comes to their mind, there’s a reason why they’re writing that: surroundings, problems, events it all has a meaning as well as an objective. It is important to understand these things so that one can truly express themselves to the fullest. This in my opinion is the beginning of good writing. Being able to be a good writer is fundamental, it is necessary to know how to properly write in order to accurately express your emotions, present your ideas etc.

I believe that the easiest part of writing for me is being able to connect all my thoughts and be concise with my writing. I don’t go overboard with what I write, I tend to be very direct with my essays as well as any other type of assignments.  However, something I struggled with during English class in high school was explaining my point with extra detail or using proof to further analyse what I was stating.

In addition,  I don’t think I will have to do a lot of writing in my intended major since it’s architecture. I might have to do multiple presentations, the main type of genre that I might use would be speech or do reviews about other projects.

This course can help me get better at my speech, writing skills as well as being able to piece detail together to strengthen my ideas.
