Taken by Getty Images on the 24th of July 2021, the sign that one of the women is holding is a drawing of the state of Texas as a bloody coat hanger to represent the coat hanger abortion myth. In this myth, many people believe that women use coat hangers to pull out the fetus and abort it. Though this myth has been proven false, many people still believe it.

The author is mainly responding to the fact that Texas just changed the lives of all women living in Texas, no matter their race, gender, religion or sexual orientation. The purpose of this image is to bring to light the situation that is occurring in Texas. Because of this new law, every single woman in Texas is suffering and is having part of their freedom ripped from them. Personally, I believe that the main target audience of this post can be the politicians and officials that voted on this new law and the rest of America. These two groups are the main audience because this photo is showing how every single female in Texas is suffering from this bill.Texans politicians are also the main target because they are the reason the law is in effect. The author’s stance on this issue is very clear; they are against the law like most of America. This issue is not just a problem in Texas; eight other states have made abortions illegal. With keeping this in mind, the genre of this image would be a public statement since the artist is trying to inform the general public about this issue.

Racism in the workplace is an issue I think needs more awareness. Being white or black shouldn’t mean you get more of an advantage over the other because of your skin color. In the workplace, white people have always had more of an advantage than people of color and it’s not right. The author of this article is Ben hatchet. I think this author is credible because his writing is accurate and he’s the president and CEO of living cities. The author has led the organization’s transformation into one of the nation’s leading economic justice organizations. The problem in this article that the author is responding to is race/racism. I know this because the article is talking about how unfair the workplace is towards blacks/people of color and how white people are always the ones in charge and have more of an advantage in the workplace.

The audience is business owners and people of the workplace. I know this because the author says that business owners need to be more aware of the unjust race issues going on in workplaces and he even used himself as an example. I also know that the audience is also people of the workplace because this is geared towards them because this directly affects them/people of the workplace. The purpose of this article is to make businesses more aware of the racial injustice in the workplace and to change the ways things have been done to making it more equal to everyone and not just white people or giving white people more of an advantage than people of color. The author’s stance towards this race matter going on in the workplace is very clear. The author is definitely against it and thinks that action should be taken now, he(ben hatchet) has already come up with a new process in his organization that makes things equal/fair. “I hate my life, and I want to die.” stated by Abby who was only 17 years old. Adolescence Mental Illness in Boston: One’s Family’s Story presented by Franciscan Children’s. The story of Abby is one out of many stories being shared of a teenager who went through depression and how she was able to take the challenge to overcome her depression. 

     Abby was just a seventeen-year-old who got raped that led her through depression. Not only did Abby had a hard time but also her mother, Beth, and her family. After reading Abby’s story, her mother, Beth didn’t think Abby was going through a big wave of emotions and thought. Although Abby’s behavior changed through time, Beth only thought that Abby was just throwing teenager tantrums and was going through a phase. Abby’s story is relatable to many readers, having the feeling of isolation, loss of interest in things, and lack of energy. 

     Abby’s story talks about her experience on how her being raped led to her being depressed. This story was presented by Franciscan Children’s that stated how Abby’s behavior changed through time, having suicidal thoughts, being taken to the ER for unwell health that detected her to have a mental health crisis. When being at the ER the staff recommended Beth to take Abby to Franciscan Children’s in Boston that would help her health care. 

     As we know that there are many young children that develop depression, anxiety, and/or ADHD before reaching the age of 24. “Statistics indicate that every two hours and seven minutes, a person under the age of 25 completes suicide in the United States.” A person commits suicide before reaching 25 is a sign that most of these young adults/teenagers have trouble reaching out for help, having been isolated to an extent that no one realizes their changes of behaviors, believing that they are fine, and going through a phase just like Abby. This article was written by Franciscan Children’s an institution that helps those that care for children and adolescents experiencing behavioral and emotional problems, knowing that there are people who are not sure who to go to or talk to when they most need it. 

     Abby was only 17 having suicidal thoughts, making it difficult for her to communicate with others especially to tell them what was her main reason to fall for this path. Abby was one of the Franciscan Children’s patients, sharing her story proves that Franciscan Children’s is a place to go to receive help. They were able to help more than 1,300 children/adolescents They saved 1,300 children from committing suicide proving that depression can be fought. After Abby being taken to Franciscan Children’s, both she and her mother were scared to know what will happen next. But after receiving treatment Abby was able to get back up to her feet, giving her the inspiration to become a nurse to help those in need just as she needed it when she was 17. 

This image is from an article on the miseducation of social justice in our schools. The creator of the image is Cristina M. Fletes and I feel as though its very powerful and shows exactly how a lot of black people have felt lately in America. I believe Cristina to be credible because of that fact that she was in a social justice class and this artwork was made to express her thoughts on the issue of racism, inequality, and the killing of African American people. In this image the artist is trying to show how America is silencing black people from speaking their truth and beliefs hence the American flag over the woman’s mouth. Names of people who were killed in cases of police brutality or murders against black people are shown in her hair. I believe the artist wants justice for these people and wants their names to be heard but America is attempting to silence the movement. There’s also a sign to the right of the woman that states that black and white people bleed and breathe the same and that they are both human. Though black people are not treated as such.

The target audience of this image could be to black people who advocate for social justice, white people who are racist or prejudice against African Americans, or just any political leader in general. I know this because of the inequality that’s being shown by the woman being kept from having her freedom of speech, black people go through this normally, racist white people cause it, and political leaders need to change it. The purpose of this image is to spark something in people who go through this issue and want to make it change. Its meant to raise awareness and inform people of the murders of African Americans that are being forgotten by so many people. The point the artist wants to push is that they matter, the innocent men and woman killed, and all of the black people who are seen as less than what they are matter. She states this by the words on the right of her art especially the word “Matter” that is put directly at the top.

The author is using a very creative from of art by symbolizing the flag as a mouth covering to limit speech. I think it was a great detail in this drawing that says a lot without really saying anything at all. Lastly from viewing Cristina’s artwork I can conclude that she is an advocate for black lives mater and strongly believes in getting justice for the people who were and continue to be wrongfully killed.

In this statement, President Joe Biden is directly responding to Texas law SB8; a new law recently implemented in Texas that bans abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, and allows individual citizens to sue anyone who performs an abortion after this time frame. I believe that President Biden is credible because the issue being addressed is a political one. He has been a politician for nearly fifty years, and is therefore educated on and experienced with laws, constitutional rights, and Supreme Court cases, as well as with forming opinions based on knowledge of such.

President Biden’s stance towards Texas law SB8 is one of complete disapproval. He refers to the law as an “extreme” one that “blatantly” violates the rights of Americans, and this diction emphasizes his opinion that the law is both unnecessary and obviously illicit. Additionally, his inclusion of specific negative consequences of the law, such as how it will bring difficulty towards health care for women, highlights his clear frustration with it.

President Biden’s target audience is both American citizens as well as politicians that aided in enacting this law. By expressing his deep disapproval of the law, he is condemning the politicians involved as well as voicing his support to the citizens that are against the law. This ties into his overall purpose of releasing the statement; he wants the politicians to feel as though they have breached their responsibility as American leaders by “violat[ing] the constitutional right” of citizens, and he wants to assert his leadership over the general public by promising to “protect and defend” their rights. In Chella Man’s film, Chella Man used his knowledge to educate himself and others using his platform to demonstrate the history of Stonewall in one of his YouTube videos “Stonewall Forever”. Based on Man’s background, Chella Man is an LGBTQ+ activist and artist. Known for sharing his experiences and knowledge as a gender queer/non binary and transgender.

The issue Man is responding to is stereotypes and discrimination towards the LGBTQ+ community, more specifically, the transgender community. Fifty-One years ago, on June 28 1969, police officers attacked Stonewall Inn, a queer bar in Greenwich Village. During this time, discrimination, stereotypes and Public Morals Divisions was a regular occurrence. Cops had the ability to abuse and arrest as well as use violence towards queer individuals. However, on the night of June 28 1969, the LGBTQ+ community fought back. Chella Man highlights the history of stone wall in his film, therefore, acknowledges thee past and present activists as well as the movements for LGBTQ+ equality before and after.

For this film, the target audience is the LGBTQ+ community and the ones that are allies with the LGBTQ+ community. More importantly, those who are against the LGBTQ+ community. After viewing Chella Man’s film, those who do not support can hopefully change their perspectives and instead also become an ally. The author most likely assumes that his audience are here to educate themselves and look deeper into history to get a better understanding of Stonewall as well as the LGBTQ+ community. The purpose of this film is to use this platform to spread awareness and bring people together. Acknowledging that even after many years, activist such as Chella Man, are still fighting for LGBTQ+ equality; also using knowledge to further expand more voices ad supporters. The genre of this film is documentary because of how many important information are provided to the audience. The stance the author have towards this subject is thoughtful and serious. Chella Man’s tone demonstrates a more powerful voice throughout his film.

“Living in an Immigrant Family in America…” is written by Samantha Artiga and Petry Ubri in 2017. Samantha is a vice president and director of the Racial Equity and Health policy Program at KFF. Petry Ubri worked on projects pertaining to insurance and access to care. They both have the knowledge and are reliable sources to share the facts on the fear, toxic stress, and health affecting immigrants’ daily lives. The authors of this text want to raise awareness for the struggles that most families don’t know that others are going through, and out of the kindness of their hearts to spread the word to make a change in the immigration family community. In the texts, it proves to the audience event after event of things that go on. For example, immigrant parents try to escape war or gang activity, they have financial or language barriers, fear of deportation. And these are just some major situations these families have to deal with on a daily. The key audience is non-immigrant families, the author is trying to show them that immigrant families have a lot to push through and need support from every angle just to get through each day. The purpose is to observe the facts of the daily lives of immigrant families and understand what they have to deal with and how our society is not resolving the right issues to make their lives easier. In the text, it states “The climate surrounding these policies and this debate potentially affect 23 million noncitizens in the U.S., including both lawfully present and undocumented immigrants, many of whom came to the U.S. seeking safety and improved opportunities for their families.” This shows how immigrant families feel unsafe and our society is not pursuing a strategy to help. This text uses pathos and logos to appeal to the audience. There is pathos by showing the daily struggle they go through and this can wound a heart figuratively the things immigrant families have to go through. It uses logos but showing hard proof of how and when society fails to assist immigrant families. The author seems like a Democrat who is trying to support immigrant families and maybe from an immigrant family themselves. The authors state their negative appeal towards Donald Trump this shows they are democrats and the way they describe the families’ lives shows they feel for them and want to share to help.

Over time, the discrimination and attacks on the LGBTQI+ community have long been an enduring issue that is prevalent in the present day. While there are people who are more open and accepting of one’s sexuality, there still exists a percentage of people who don’t approve of people’s sexual identity.

In the article, “Protesters march in Brooklyn after two men attacked in alleged anti-gay assault”, by journalist Cynthia Silva, she describes a situation in which two individuals were assaulted and robbed while being called anti-gay slurs. She depicts the event thoroughly through the statements made by Adelaja, one of the individuals who was assaulted by the attackers. This first-hand account gives her article credibility as she gets the full story from someone who experienced the event itself. Her article was also published recently on the NBC news website on September 8th, 2021, which is a credible source of news for Americans. From what I can understand by reading her article, Cynthia shines a light on how members of the LGBTQI+ community are still being prejudiced against in this very day and gives a recount on Adelaja’s experience.

This newfound information is clearly being revealed to the citizens of New York in order to give them more of a reason to fight against anti-LGBTQI+ injustice, especially since it happened in the city. Furthermore, in her article, she also provides a photo of people marching and protesting in front of the scene of the crime, thus providing the audience the encouragement to join and fight alongside the protesters in order to truly receive justice. After all, New York is considered one the largest and most diverse cities in the world, full of people from different backgrounds and ethnicities. So by reaching out to this large scale audience, her central point is clearly to try to persuade everyone in New York to help fight for the cause. Her usage of quotes stated by Adelaja clearly insights the usage of pathos as she is using his emotional words and claims in order to grasp the audience’s attention and further influence them to join the cause. Also, considering the fact that the source is an article of a first-hand account, the genre would essentially be an emotional narrative due to the information and quotes stated by Adelaja as he described the event.

All in all, the article was able to give a clear representation to the issues that still exist within the LGBTQI+ community. It’s important to help out anyone who may be dealing with issues as a result of their sexuality or identity. With the help of Cynthia, more and more people would learn and become more educated on these issues, thus providing society a stronger “vaccine” in order to get rid of the ignorant “virus”

       Police brutality has been an issue for a very long time, especially towards African Americans. It is something that has been unfairly justified and pushed off by other law enforcement. The author, Rashawn Ray, of the article, “How can we Enhance Police Accountability in the United States,” helps point out the issues of police brutality and how to prevent it through rhetorical languages. Ray is a Senior Fellow at The Brookings Institution. He is also a Professor of Sociology and Executive Director of the Lab for Applied Social Science Research. Rashawn regularly testifies at the federal/states on racial equity, policing and criminal justice reform, health policy, wealth, and family policy. Based on these acquisitions, Ray is more than qualified to speak about the topic of Police brutality. 

      The author attempts to reach out to law enforcement, but he also tries to open up to America as a whole to help prevent police brutality from happening. He does this by breaking the article into different actions by telling his audience what is police brutality, its effects, past incidences, statistics, and ways to fix it. Ray knows that America isn’t fully on board with what he says but he tries to convince his audience to stand against police brutality for the sake of unity. He does this through the genre of statistics and facts. He presents statistics based on the number of times and how common police brutality actually is and how it affects African Americans. Ray shows a youtube video and tweets about how common police brutality occurs.

      It’s clear that Ray’s purpose of this article is to spread awareness about police brutality and ways to stop it from happening. Ray is trying to help stop police brutality from happening by proposing two different solutions. He explains that any officer that has been terminated due to police misconduct should not work in the law enforcement field again. This is to prevent mistakes from these officers from happening again since officers such as Derek Chauvin. Chauvin is known as the officer who brutally murdered Gorge Floyd, but people forget to recognize that he actually had 18 different misconducts before that. The other proposal he gave to stop police brutality was to restructure civilian payouts by moving them from taxpayer money to police department insurance policies.
