In my last two essays, I wrote about the importance of civic classes for youths under the age of 18 that aren’t able to vote by legal age. My intened audience is teenargers that are not fully edcuated on politics and for government officals to provide additional civic classes for youths under tha age of 18. I want my audience to understand the importance of voting and how voting represents their voice is they want any changes based on their standard of living. Voting also represents democracy where the people hold more power and have the ability to use their voice to ahcieve what benefits everyone else. The genre I will be using is political cartoons as well as memes to make my ideas more attractive to the audiences. The rhetorical stragety I will be using is logos and pathos. I will provide data based information as well as my own thoughts based on this topic.
For esssay #2, the research question I chose is “how has voting been a difficult process for young American citizens”? The sources I found so far demonsartes the difficult process of voting for teens that aren’t educated enough to vote as well as not old enough to have the ability to use their voice. The article emphasized how and when we vote in America had always been a complicated process for young individuals. To vote today in the United States, individuals must be an American citizen and at least 18 years old during voting day, the first Tuesday of November. To register how to vote claims to be an easy process; voters can follow clear instructions and still result in insignificant changes at the last minute. Voter suppression demonstrates many methods used to interfere with the final vote results. In another article, the author Drew Desilver, describes that one of the solutions for citizens to vote is by having all states to enable mail-in voting. The research data shows more than half of the voters in the most recent election came primary from the mail-in ballots, this proves that mail-in voting is one of the effective ways for citizens to use their voice and exercise their rights. What is missing in my reaseach is more sources because I need 4 article and 3 social media.
The social issue that interests me the most is LGBTQ+ inequality. More specifically, Transgender inequality. The issue is how in a patriarchal society, transgender individuals must be deemed “passing” (cis enough) in another’s perspective to be worth of one’s respect. Furthermore, based on the concept of binaries, it limits an individual’s self expression because of gender based roles. This social issue interests me because of how resilient people are towards the discrimination, stereotypes as well as prejudice they face everyday just for being themselves. Besides, there is a lot of history prevailing because the LGBTQ+ community are fighting for their basic human rights despite many biased opinions towards them. Historical erasure and systemic oppression creates a barrier for those who need to define themselves by who they are, rather than what they are not. I want to know more about the history and current events about the LGBTQ+ community while being an ally as well as a member myself. To know more about these, I would have to educate myself more with this social issue as well as do more research while writing about this topic, therefore, proudly support the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals, to live equal and safe lives.
In Chella Man’s film, Chella Man used his knowledge to educate himself and others using his platform to demonstrate the history of Stonewall in one of his YouTube videos “Stonewall Forever”. Based on Man’s background, Chella Man is an LGBTQ+ activist and artist. Known for sharing his experiences and knowledge as a gender queer/non binary and transgender.
The issue Man is responding to is stereotypes and discrimination towards the LGBTQ+ community, more specifically, the transgender community. Fifty-One years ago, on June 28 1969, police officers attacked Stonewall Inn, a queer bar in Greenwich Village. During this time, discrimination, stereotypes and Public Morals Divisions was a regular occurrence. Cops had the ability to abuse and arrest as well as use violence towards queer individuals. However, on the night of June 28 1969, the LGBTQ+ community fought back. Chella Man highlights the history of stone wall in his film, therefore, acknowledges thee past and present activists as well as the movements for LGBTQ+ equality before and after.
For this film, the target audience is the LGBTQ+ community and the ones that are allies with the LGBTQ+ community. More importantly, those who are against the LGBTQ+ community. After viewing Chella Man’s film, those who do not support can hopefully change their perspectives and instead also become an ally. The author most likely assumes that his audience are here to educate themselves and look deeper into history to get a better understanding of Stonewall as well as the LGBTQ+ community. To add on, their own identity.
The purpose of this film is to use this platform to spread awareness and bring people together. Acknowledging that even after many years, activist such as Chella Man, are still fighting for LGBTQ+ equality; also using knowledge to further expand more voices ad supporters. The genre of this film is documentary because of how many important information are provided to the audience. The stance the author have towards this subject is thoughtful and serious. Chella Man’s tone demonstrates a more powerful voice throughout his film.
After reviewing the syllabus, one thing I am excited about is being productive and focused as I get all my assignments done on time. One thing I am nervous about regarding this course is not being able to manage my time well because I usually wait last minute. Also, receiving weird grades is probably another thing to be nervous about. But besides that, I am mostly more excited than nervous because I really want to experience what college writing really is.
The qualities of good writing demonstrates the writer’s purpose and innovation. From my perspective, in order to be a good writer, the writer will have to be passionate about their topic. It is important to write well because it will bring the audience’s attention as well as provide specific information, which can also have a positive impact on them. To add on, a good writer provides a voice and sometimes display an image in the reader’s mind through writing.
The easiest part of writing for me is writing about any kind of topics I have experience with. For example, if I write about being a server, I can provide many information and evidence. I do well with expressing my experience over writing, while indicating some part of me. The hardest part of writing for me is the length. In general, I would get directly to the point but also have difficulty expanding my point of view. I need to work on elaborating as well as expanding my length of pages.
As of right now, I am interested in becoming an English teacher, therefore, I would expected to write all different kinds on genres. But I am mostly interested in non-fiction.Effective writing would benefit me with this career because I can pass on that experience and knowledge to others.
