RHETORICAL ANALYSIS

The social issue I chose to write about was equal rights for women. I am using an image of the dress that Carolyn B. Maloney wore it to the 2021 Met Gala. Carolyn B. Maloney is a representative of the United States and she has been speaking about the equal rights of women for a long time now. She has published a book speaking about the fact that women’s lives are not getting easier and ways on how we can help ourselves and other women around the world. For years, women have not been treated equally to men in multiple cases. Whether it was with work pay or just mutual respect, men always received the upper hand. On the dress Carolyn B. Maloney, in big bold letters it says “Equal Rights For Women.” Since the Met Gala is such a big event that is known & watched all around the world, she took the opportunity to raise awareness on the issue due to the laws that are being passed by men about females. I believe that her audience were women all around the world. In a way I feel like she used this event and the dress to encourage women around the world to stand up for their equal rights because females deserve to be treated equally. Carolyn B. Maloney seems to have a very strong stance on equal rights for women. This is not the first time that she mentions the issue and the fact that she used such a big event to spread awareness just proves that she wants as many people as possible to see her dress and be aware of the issue.

After reviewing the syllabus, the one thing I am most excited for is the Portfolio. I love to see the progress I’ve made so to see if my writing has changed in any kind of way will be really exciting for me. Over the past few years, my writing has gotten a lot better but I feel like there is always room for improvement when it comes to it. Sometimes I can be a little repetitive while writing and I do want to learn ways I can prevent that from happening. I’m really nervous about the peer review that we have to do with the class. I was never really comfortable with sharing my work with the class and would make sure that my teachers were the only ones to see the work that I have written. I think I’m just afraid of someone judging my work right in front of me. I can write really strong body paragraphs when well prepared but struggle a lot with the introduction of papers because I don’t want to write something unnecessary or if I’m writing about a book I don’t want to spoil it for anyone. Body paragraphs on the other hand are very easy for me to write when I have the right material as well as a strong thesis. I believe that being a good writer always starts with having a good thesis statement. A good writer is also very clear with their writing unless they are purposely not trying to be. Being a good writer is really important because writing is always something that we are going to use whether it’s formally or informally. Being able to write the correct way and using the right grammar is going to be important when filling out important documents or even when writing an email to your boss. I feel like for my major I will be writing a lot of research papers about different cultures along with some history papers. If i do decided to stick to my major and get a job that is in that field I will most likely end up working for the government and my writing skills would have to be very strong in order to make sure that the things i write are correct and that there is never a misunderstanding when someone else is reading my writing.
