Assignment2-ResearchTopic

The Research question I chose is, “what has changed in the United States in the past 245 years of its existence that there is a stance against immigration”, whereas we all know the United States was considered a refuge for people around the world seeking political, social and religious safe havens recently we have seems a huge uprising in those who wish to not accept/ make it more difficult in order to enter the United States, by coincidence, it is also the main introduction . I plan on researching the beginning of the United States history and its foundation, the World Wars era as well as current situations as background research and information for the governmental policies that were proposed, enacted as well as rejected ones; since the United States is a representative democracy which means people elect leaders to represent their general viewpoints, hence, these policies would reflect the populations general feelings. I plan on using the article, “Admitting More Refugees into the United States Is Too Costly.” By, Don Barnett (link.gale.com/apps/doc/EJ3010144261/OVIC?
u=cuny_ccny&sid=bookmark-OVIC&xid=cf5bee08) which is written as a scholarly article for a targeted audience of United States citizens/” common folk”. This topic is a social political issue since it has an affect on the movement of people from around the world into the United States. So far, the articles I have in mind for this assignment is:

1) link.gale.com/apps/doc/EJ3010144261/OVIC?u=cuny_ccny&sid=bookmark-OVIC&xid=cf5bee08 – the article I plan on mirroring

However, I do plan on finding one more prior to my essays start, specifically, opposite of the first article, so for support of immigration, in order to provide an opposite stance, even though one doesn’t seem to be provided in the mirrored text; I feel as it will add a little more substance and to remove political ideology from the tone of the text.

What has changed in the United States in the past 245 years, and how it has affected immigration. that's a pretty interesting topic. I never knew how much immigration has affected the united states, and I'm looking forward to learning more about it when I read your essay. It's good that you've already researched a few of your topics, and found all the links.

Hi Matthew, I think that your overall research topic of US immigration is really interesting and currently a social issue and human rights issue. I think that your research question is interesting because you are focusing on the principles of the United States originally with accepting all immigrants, fleeing oppressive governments. I think that something you could add into your research would be reporting on the first and second waves of immigration during the "gilded age" of the United States until the 1950's focusing even on the population of immigrants in New York and the treatment they received to show the development of this change in ideology over time until the present day.

Your topic on changes U.S. had throughout the years for U.S. immigrants is a daily commotion that has been going on for years, I would enjoy this topic very much since I had different stories told to me about my family immigrating here to the U.S and how they were treated if caught and so on. Although to this day I am not fully up to date on what has been going on but I think you would do a good job on it since you seem to have your model essay and source listed down.

Your research topic for this essay is quite interesting as it would be great to learn more about how immigration laws and conditions have changed throughout the course of the history of the united states. Especially considering how there are vast changes in diversity and immigration existing in today's day and age. It also speaks to me on a personal level as my entire family are immigrants and I was the first person born into the US so I would love to learn more about how these laws affected the lives of various immigrants such as my own family.
