      After reviewing the syllabus for English Composition 1, I am very excited to use more of my creativity for my papers/assignments. I’ve always thought the college papers would require a lot more creativity compared to high school when it comes to elaborating or expressing yourself in writing. This class will most definitely do this because now, this class will require me to write 6-8 pages for my writing assignments. However, that does kind of worry me at the same time because in my highschool days, I would only be required to write 2-3 pages for a writing assignment. I also never had written a 6-8 page essay so, this will be really new to me and out of my comfort zone. 

      Now that I have to write 6-8 pages, I really need to think to myself, what would make good writing? I personally think that having an intriguing hook, creativity, and a meaningful message is what makes a good paper. If you come off with an intriguing hook, it’ll give a reason/persuade the reader to keep going with that story. Then, your creativity must shine through that paper to keep the reader intrigued throughout the story. Lastly, a meaningful message is necessary so that the reader is not empty handed once he/she finishes reading it. To achieve writing a good paper, that person must practice writing through prompts, accept constructive criticism, and have basic writing skills such as: vocabulary, adjectives, figurative language, etc. It is important to have a well written paper because it will help capture the attention of many other people rather than having a lost/forgettable message. 

      The easiest part of writing for me is making informative and argumentative writing. I work best with writing about facts and proving myself with factual evidence because that’s what intrigues me the most. The hardest part of writing for me is the use of vocabulary. After writing an essay, I realize that I can be very repetitive with my choice of words. I really need to work on my vocabulary so that my writing can be interesting for the person reading my paper. 

       Since I intend on majoring for civil engineering, writing will be a very important factor when pursuing that major. As a civil engineer, we must write about inspections, field and progress reports, specifications, and research for products. Being an effective writer in this field is very important so that everybody can work more smoothly when figuring out the specifications/progress of the project they were assigned. Without this system, progress would be much slower and won’t be as smooth. Overall, being an effective/good writer will help elevate your creativity and grab a reader’s attention.

One thing i’m excited about is how write at a college level and how to properly put my ideas at a college level in writing. One thing i’m nervous about is the homework because i hate writing pages when things can be explained with less pages and also the time limit that comes with them because not only do students have to complete the homework of this class but they must do it for all their classes and that really affects the ways students approach each day. Good qualities of good writing are being able to explain your point in a way that most readers can understand what your trying to say and another good quality is being able to make the reader picture what your trying to explain in their head or give them a general idea of what your trying to say. In order to be good at writing you must work on your writing and keep improving your vocabulary and the way you express your emotions or opinion inside of the writing, furthermore you must also learn what your good at when your writing, for example a person who might be good at writing a thriller might not be good at writing a comedy and knowing what your good at can help you set the mood of your writing and what tone your writing is going to have. Also listening to feedback can also let you know what you lack in your writing and it shows you what parts your good at so next time you can improve, it’s important to write good because it allows you to express your emotions and your meaning to others in the things that you write. The easiest part of writing for me is writing by hand because it allows me to write faster and finish my work. The thing i do well is understand or try to understand what someone is trying to say in their writing and explain what clues led me to their point, the hard part of writing is creative writing because honestly i have nothing creative to write about, also something i need to work on is having my writing expand lots of pages because i know that after i’m done with my main point i’m going to repeat myself and going to drag anything i can so that i can complete the page requirement. For my major i’m going to have to write reports and write research papers because the field i’m going into deals with the science of the brain and i must learn to write in a way that is easy to understand but also write in a scientific way so that the research is acceptable to those who read it and those who have more experience in the field of psychology. Learning how to be an effective writer can help me finish papers faster and allow me to be clear and thorough with my point and what i have to say each time i have to write.
